The project focuses on the significance of social science research and the connection between the environment and human behavior in facility planning and design. Working with Cayuga Medical Associates (CMA), a programming document was created for the redesign of an outpatient facility located at 1020 Craft Road, Ithaca, NY 14850. The facility will house four departments: Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology and Rheumatology.

CMA aims to consolidate its 22 leased locations throughout Tompkins County and surrounding areas to streamline 50% of their medical departments and shared resources. The goal is to identify and address transitioning and phasing concerns of all stakeholders through design guidelines while considering spatial and business constraints. The architectural program was created to define the design challenge, direct the design process, and evaluate design solutions.

The outcome is to use social science research, facility management expertise, and design ideas to create a program of space requirements. The project also provides the opportunity to gain experience in developing a successful programming process and participate in a real-life programming project fwith the client.
